Eli Buddy is a Texas Country Music artist and songwriter that hails from Atascosa, Texas. A proud Texan, whose roots can be traced back to 6 Generations of Texas citizen. Eli Buddy understands that while mainstream country music changes directions yet again, it is of the utmost importance to hold onto the Roots of what made him fall in love with this music and way of life at such a tender age. Very diverse musical influences helped pave the way to Eli Buddy’s songwriting and singing abilities. Influences that range from Hank Williams Sr and George Jones to the Texas Tornadoes and ZZ top. Crowds at any given show are quickly won over and taken captive by the genuine and expert musical abilities of both Eli Buddy and his Sweet Mesquite Band.
Eli Buddy was born in San Antonio, Texas. At a very young age Eli however, Eli and his immediate family moved to Chicago, IL. Although Chicago brought many fond friendships and experiences, it was always in Texas that he knew he belonged. At the age of 6 his father purchased his first acoustic guitar, fondly named Dusty that he still owns to this day. Eli began writing music at the age of 8. Singing and performing for his family and friends at every opportunity. During this time, Eli’s father was the true influence in developing his ability to sing. At the age of 12 Eli happily returned to Texas where he continued to write and sing and play music he independently penned. Music became his life. Listening, studying and absorbing music of all sorts, lyrics and the emotions conveyed, he continued to fall deeper in love with Country Music of old times.
After several small garage bands, Eli Buddy & Sweet Mesquite was formed in 2011. A 6-piece Texas Country Band comprised of musical veterans fixated on creating original, yet traditional sounding Texas Country and Honky Tonk Music. Bassist Joe Villasana; from Sabinal, Tx, has toured for years on the Texas Country circuit with many well-known bands such as Johnny Rodriguez and Johnny Bush. John Paul Munoz; from Lockhart, Tx, the band’s utility player, is known for brandishing harmonica, accordion, acoustic guitar, mandolin and singing backup during any given performance. Rene Corona, from San Antonio, Tx, is the groups percussionist and has been involved playing San Antonio’s large Honky Tonk scene for many years. Tyler Jenschke, fiddle and steele guitar player, has honed his craft playing along with Hunter Hutchinson and has toured with the likes of Josh Abbott and Aaron Watson.
ELI BUDDY AND SWEET MESQUITE look intently upon their future and it is bright. Their first album was released in February of 2018 and has received great fan and radio support. This debut album was expertly mixed and mastered by Tony Gonzales, a professional in the business with more than 30 years. Tony has also mastered albums for Texas Legends such as Willie Nelson. This album was produced in San Antonio, by Grammy Nominated Producer Jonny Martinez at the well known AMI Records. Eli Buddy's first single and music video, “TEQUILA” was released JAN 2017 and has received an outstanding reception from the Americana, Texas Country and even the Tejano community. This single features Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner Mr Flaco Jimenez. A southwest style drinking song chalk full of flavor and Texas Originality.
